Shun Poo Kan North Carolina Aikido |
Sensei Burrows is the head of the Shun Poo Kan school of Aikido, based in Wombourne, United Kingdom. Mr. Burrows has been teaching Aikido since 1977. There are many forms of Aikido that have developed over the years, Shun Poo Kan Aikido retains the technical and philosophical focus and intent of the founder, Morihei Ueshiba, the founder of Aikido (referred to commonly as O’Sensei). Mr. Gilbert, instructor at the Shun Poo Kan—North Carolina dojo studied under Mr. Burrows and Mr. Paul Evans (instructor at the Bridgnorth SPK Dojo) during his 6 years based in the United Kingdom. Mr. Gilbert has studied various martial arts since 1974. He has studied Jujitsu, Tae Kwon Do, Isshinryu, Thai Kick Boxing, Judo, Vita Saana, and competitive sword fighting (fencing) among others. Mr. Gilbert taught rape prevention and self defense to military families while stationed in Germany. He has taught women’s and children’s self defense courses. He has also instructed teachers in classroom awareness and self protection. Shun Poo Kan—North Carolina is an Aikido club, it is not for profit and only charges for special seminars and courses. Students that wish to have their grades recognized internationally pay a minimal fee to Shun Poo Kan. Courses are tailored to the students needs and cover all the basics of traditional Aikido, supplemented with basic self defense. Dedicated students have the opportunity to travel to the UK and attend classes as guests of Shun Poo Kan’s dojo’s based in Shropshire, England. Contributions to the maintenance of the training equipment are always welcome. We practice in as realistic an environment as possible. Instruction is tailored to the individual.
